About Us

ABOUT OUR SCRAMBLE

Chris was taken off this earth way too soon on June 10, 2012 but ironically on a day when he was enjoying and living life to the fullest! On this tragic day he played basketball, ran a race, cheered on his athletes, enjoyed conversations with friends, and even drove around in his antique Mustang. Chris had a zest for life, which was cultivated during his education through the Perkins School System and The Ohio State University. He was definitely proud to be both a pirate and a buckeye.

Chris could be seen at numerous Perkins events even before his children were school aged; he enjoyed attending basketball, football, volleyball and baseball games, reverse raffles, band and choir concerts, and school musicals. He was so excited when he was named High School Boys Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track Coach. Christopher wanted his athletes to be trained with the same dedication and enthusiasm as he received from Coach Hinton. He also spent time coaching junior high track, and cross country, and girls basketball. He took pride in training off season athletes in speed work. Christopher was not only book smart, he had a strong sense of self.

He had a powerful inner strength and leadership skills; living by example even if nobody was watching. The strong beam of light was evident while he was a member of the Perkins Board of Education for many years; only leaving the board to pursue his dream of being a head coach. For those of you who knew him as a board member, you know he was not a YES man, instead he made decisions that would prove positive for the teachers, students, and community.

This fundraiser was put in place as a way to acquire funds for graduating Perkins High School seniors in the form of the Chris Smith Memorial Scholarship. Each year our goal is to award at least two scholarships to students who excel in extracurricular activities.

The Chris Smith Memorial golf scramble will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Woussickett Golf Course.   Chris was a well-known and loved member of our community.  He was a coach, runner, and friend to many in the area.  He died as a result of a car crash in 2012.

Funds raised from the golf scramble will go to the Chris Smith Scholarship fund.  Each year scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors.  We could not do this without the support of our sponsors.  We are asking you to consider helping us with the scholarship fund by making a donation to this event.

Chris loved working with and helping the kids.  We would like to keep that helping spirit alive by offering the scholarships in his name.  You can help make this happen by being one of our sponsors.  These are the four types of sponsors:

Platinum Sponsor - $750.00. We will have signs with your business name in the clubhouse area, at the 1st or 10th tee box and featured on our website. Your name will also be highlighted in the program and announced at the start of the scramble .

Gold Dinner Sponsor - $500.00. Dinner sponsors will be announced during the catered meal at the conclusion of the scramble. Signs will also be present with business names of dinner sponsors and featured on our website.

Silver Beer Cart Sponsor - $250.00. We will have signs with your business name in the clubhouse area, at the 1st or 10th tee box and featured on our website. Your name will also be highlighted in the program and on the website.
